Since 1985, Jonathan Ullmer MBE has concentrated his educational interests and expertise on enhancing students' experiences on a national and worldwide scale. As Founding Director of Education and Principal of the CATS Colleges, he led two schools from unsatisfactory to excellent under leadership that was deemed exceptional by UK Inspectors. The objective of the CATS colleges is to assist international students in preparing for university achievement and enhancing their English proficiency as they prepare for a career in the arts. Jonathan Ullmer studied English at the universities of Durham and Oxford, where he earned a Distinction in Teaching Practice. He earned an MA in North American Literature from the University of Victoria in British Columbia, Canada. In addition, he received a certificate in the Therapeutic and Educational Application of the Arts from the Institute of Arts in Education and Therapy and the LRAM designation as a Teacher from the Royal Academy of Music. Mr. Ullmer began his career in education in 1985 at the Swanley School in Kent, where he taught English and Drama. In 2002, he worked as Assistant Principal at Sawyers Hall College of Science and Technology in
Jonathan accepted a position as the headmaster of a school in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, after receiving an offer from Haileybury School in Astana. Jonathan was the ideal candidate for the job at the city school where he worked with the teachers to guide Haileybury through a successful inspection because of his experience in school development.
